This is awesome! But one problem - we're linking to files that are on our server and when we send an email to a teammate and they click the link, or even copy/paste it in Go to File, it doesn't work.

After getting tired of pushing the 'remind me tomorrow' button on the update message, I finally closed all of my programs and pushed the 'install' button. After the updates were installed, the computer rebooted. When the progress bar reached about 2/3, the screen changed from the Apple/progress bar to the prohibit (circle with slash). I have reset SMC, PRAM, and disk utilities. When I try to reinstall Mac OS, it tells me it can not connect to server or, one time, it said it can't reinstall because the version on my hard drive is newer than the internet recovery. I have also removed and replaced the hard drive, removed it and mounted it externally, and tried to mount it externally to this old computer. None of these have done any good.

What I would like to try next is to create an external boot disk with High Sierra, but the only other computer I have (which I am using now) is an old MacBook running 10.6.8, (the highest it will upgrade.) The App store will not download the High Sierra installer to this outdated computer. Is there somewhere I can get High Sierra that I can use to create an external boot disk? I am looking for some alternate ideas, but the best one I have come up with is to find some way to get a copy of High Sierra 10.13.2 onto an external boot disk, which I can then connect to my disabled MacBook Pro and reinstall after entering recovery mode and disk utilities.

The only authorized source for macOS is the Mac App Store, and the only way to create a macOS installer is to use a supported Mac. If neither one is an option for you, you'll need to solicit help from someone for whom it is an option. Obviously that can be an Apple Retail store or an AASP; otherwise find someone with a compatible Mac and the willingness to create either a standalone installer or install macOS on an external drive that you can use with yours.

That's the way to do it, unless of course you have a more recent Mac than the one you were trying to use. From your description of the problem it's possible the disk on you were trying to install macOS was on its way out. There simply are no reliable tools that can be used to provide absolute assurance it's intact.
